BlackBerry 7130g Supports Standard Internet
The BlackBerry 7130g is the latest revision of the 7100 series of messaging devices, at first exclusive to O2 in Europe, but is likely to be picked up by other operators as well. The BlackBerry 7130g expected to be available in the UK since June 2006, probably followed by O2 Germany shortly thereafter.
It follows the same general pattern of 7100x, with the now familiar SureType keyboard in a large, bright display. In terms of size and weight, the BlackBerry 7130g is almost identical to the old 7100 series devices.
The 7130g is powered by an Intel Xscale 312MHz, the same as that found in the BlackBerry 8700 series. 64MB internal memory now consists of flash memory money 16Mb SDRAM, a significant improvement compared to the 32MB and 4 MB in the older 7100x. Battery life has also been improved - the BlackBerry 7130g a whopping 18 days in the standby mode (8 days) and four hours duration. While the mode is impressive, the length is a little disappointing for a business combination .. In our view, four hours is not enough.
One of the things that set the original 7100 series apart from other handsets is the display - one of the brightest and most clear on the screens of any device on the market. The 7130g comes with essentially the same panel, a unit of 240×260 pixels with 65000 colors. In addition, the BlackBerry 7130g comes with Bluetooth, and a loudspeaker. As for 7100 is a quad-band GSM device, but it is now supported EDGE and GPRS as well as (if applicable). There is no camera, expandable memory or MP3 player (although the 7130g supports MP3 ringtones), which is very good for business.
Of course, there is a BlackBerry device, so its main strengths are in the mail. It supports standard Internet POP3/IMAP4/SMTP email as well as “Push” e-mail from a server BlackBerry (which can be integrated with Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino server). It also supports a variety of instant messaging protocols (may vary depending on the operator).
