HTC P3300 TomTom Satelit Navigation Software
Posted on December 22, 2007 in HTC
The software TomTom navigation on the HTC P3300 will be available in two flavors, a taster edition with a single map of the city (real cards to be confirmed) or the premium edition that comes with the cards’ Western Europe preloaded. This is fairly important data around 2GB in a unit dedicated TomTom, so presumably the premium version will have a great capacity microSD card. Say that the HTC P3300 will be available from October 2006.

You will notice that the HTC P3300 has a traditional “big” screen arrangement, and not the “big” screen with most systems dedicated satnav. It is a matter of personal preference, but we suspect that most people prefer a larger screen.
Yet it is quite clear that the HTC P3300 will be attractive to customers, and it looks like a very capable all-in-one device from a technical point of view.
From a commercial point of view, the HTC P3300 is also quite intelligent. One thing that is often overlooked about satnav systems is the need to maintain them. A new series of maps of Western Europe TomTom is about £ 100 / € 150 or more, and then there is an additional premium for TomTom services such as traffic reports and the new security camera depending on the version 6 of TomTom. We do not know quite what the commercial arrangements between TomTom, HTC and carriers, but it is clear that a device like the HTC P3300 may be a good source of income in this area.

Yes, it has a large 2.8 “240×320 pixel touch screen, quad-band GSM, GPRS and EDGE support, WiFi and expandable memory, but the smart thing on the P3300 is that HTC comes with inbuilt GPS equipment and TomTom satellite navigation software. There is also a 2.0 megapixel camera and FM radio.
In fact, there is nothing truly revolutionary in the HTC P3300. TomTom software (and other applications satnav) were available for the Windows platform for some time now and it is not yet integrated the first phone / GPS system we have seen (see Benefon Twig Explorer, for example ). However, it is a neat package, and it should help to avoid some of the problems of integration that people sometimes get their phone / GPS / PDA configuration work.
The aircraft is a Windows Mobile 5.0, the P3300 is presented HTC smartphone Windows. Readers of the Gazette mobile will undoubtedly know what kind of features go into a device like this, so we will not dwell on this point.
