I live abroad and use my laptop as my main form of media entertainment. I bought the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere (my second, as the first was lost in a suitcase), as a computer speaker. The sound is adequate, but not as loud or clear as the Altec Lansing iMation. I chose the Logitech over another Altec Lansing because of the color and style. It matches my white MacBook and takes up less space on my desk than the Altec Lansing.

The problem, however, is that when it’s connected to my computer, it shuts itself off after two minutes, so I can’t use it at all for my computer. Why even have an auxilary control? The Altec Lansing also comes with different input source options, such as FM radio and AUX. If you have your iPod in the Logitech while plugged in to your computer, it won’t play sound from your computer. You have to remove the iPod.

I honestly wish I had bought another Altec Lansing. I agonized over this decision and ultimately chose style over function. Bad move.

While there are limitations to this portable speaker — limited power, no tone controls, slight brightness in the upper octaves — it still has much to offer. When used in battery mode, the sound just floats out there — I prefer to not use the broadened imaging setting (button with ((*))) — enjoyable sound. I am using a 80gb video ipod with cd’s recorded in wav. I have an XtremeMac Luna Alarm Clock + Room Audio System for iPod at the office and while the luna does have a fuller sound (with adjustable bass and treble controls), the logitech playback of Patricia Barber songs are very clear, defined and listenable — something that one might not be able to say about many other speaker systems, particularly one at this price range. Again, recommend that you use battery mode.

    Give it a try.

I could not get this device to play through even one song without shutting itself off. From what I’ve been able to gather from other people’s reviews on another website, it is a technical glitch that is widespread and stems from an automatic shut-off feature of the unit.

These speakers offer great sound for the money. They don’t take up a lot of room and they have great sound quality. They are sturdy, and very portable, they even come with a padded carrying case. They also have built in batteries! We liked them so much that my daughter bought one too!

Hard to give an appropriate rating due to my set of circumstances, as they do sound and work well with other players.

I’m on my second set of speakers with the same results using an Archos 605 WiFi 30 gig. After an arbitrary amount of time, whether on battery or AC, the speakers power themselves off. I have not had this problem with other MP3 units I own such as a Palm III, Gamin Nuvi 705 or Windows Media Player.

I called the support desk at Logitech and was told to reset the unit by pressing and holding the reset button on the bottom for 15 seconds which did not solve the problem.

In all fairness the speakers sound very good! Great bass and mid-range!! Just disappointed and wanted others to know my results with the Archos. If they didn’t power themselves down I’d give a 4 star rating. 5 stars if treble response was better.
