Nokia E90 Support Communicator Devices
Posted on January 4, 2008 in Nokia
The Nokia E90 Communicator is the latest in a long line of communicator devices, and it is the replacement for the Nokia 9500 that was announced three years ago. Nokia E90 say that the E90 is long-awaited would be an understatement. One of the weaknesses of the 9500, Nokia 9300 and 9300i devices resulting in lack of support for 3G, and the E90 adds that now.

But it’s more than just a port of the old Communicator platform of 3G, the Nokia E90 also adds an integrated GPS receiver and navigation application, a 3.2 megapixel camera, FM radio and a screen significantly improved. As for 9500, the Nokia E90 retains WiFi support and has a full QWERTY keyboard (even if the keyboard has been improved in the E90).
The Communicator series devices have always had the dubious nickname of brick, and the Nokia E90 continues in this tradition. At a hefty 210 grams, the E90 is actually 20 grams lighter than the 9500, but 38 grams heavier than the 9300i. Nokia has done a remarkable job with the size if - when viewed from the front (see left), the E90 is about the height and thickness of the compact 9300/9300i while keeping the same width as the 9500 to 132 x 57 x 20mm.
Inside the E90 is an impressive display with a resolution 800×352 pixels in 16 million colors, a bit like the round table on the Nokia N800, it is against 640×200 pixels on previous models. The external display is 240×320 pixels (compared to 128×128), and nearly all functions of the E90 can be controlled from the front, rather than the 9500/9300/9300i which allowed access to functions basic phone only. The 800 pixel wide is ideal for display without compromising access to the Web, although it has no touch screen.
Nokia E90 opening Sure, the E90 supports the Communicator name for a reason, and it comes with a wide range of communications options. Email support includes standard protocols SMTP/POP3, various options for push e-mail, instant messaging, and it even comes with a text-to-speech reader. Support Network is quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), plus 2100 MHz UMTS (3G), GPRS and EDGE. Significantly, the Nokia E90 takes into account the support HSDPA offering download speeds of up to 3.6Mbit/sec. In addition, the E90 comes with 802.11g WiFi. It is difficult to fault E90 in terms of networks it supports, but an omission is the ability to work with UMTS networks on something other than the 2100 MHz band, which limits its use 3G in the United States and in certain other countries.
More controversially, the Nokia E90 includes a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus. Many companies do not like cameras in their mobile professionals, and for some it is an issue with the 9500 (which has a VGA resolution camera), which was settled with the camera-less 9300. There is also a second camera for video calls.
Nokia E90 interface very significant change of 9500 is under the hood. This is a Symbian S60 (Series 60) smartphone, rather than the operating system on the 80 Series 9500 and 9300. Although this appears to be a step backwards (because the number 80 was written specifically for this type of aircraft), S60 support E90 gives users access to a much wider range of applications. Nokia 9500 users must adapt quickly to the new interface.
As with the previous models, the Nokia E90 capabilities of the software are impressive. It includes an editor called Quickoffice document, can view Microsoft Office documents, working with Zip and PDF files, and there is a full set of Nokia E90 Communicator in use tools for managing personal information. Because it is a S60 device, the more applications can be added .. While most will have to be adapted for the screen of the E90.
Another important feature is the Nokia Communicator E90 GPS function. This allows for more than just basic location-based services, such as Nokia are going to do is “Nokia Maps” application available. Although this appears to be a free SatNav (satellite navigation) package, it is worth remembering that much of the value added features require a network connection of data which could incur costs.
In addition to all the other features, the Nokia E90 Communicator is a mobile multimedia, with the support of MP3 and AAC audio and video clips. There is even an FM radio. From data and media clips can be stored on microSD cards with a maximum capacity of 2GB.
Did we tell this makes phone calls? Because the thing with the Nokia E90 Communicator is that it is essentially a small handheld rather than a phone .. But of course it works exactly as you wanted. Duration on GSM is quoted up 5 hours with a maximum of 14 days standby. Of course, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G will reduce the use of time.
Say that the Nokia E90 will initially be available during Q2 2007 with a job with a future full production in Q3, although past experience, we would not be surprised if it were overdue. All this technology comes at a price, with the E90 will cost around € 800 / £ 500 / $ 1000 before taxes and subsidies, roughly the same cost as 9500 at the launch.
In conclusion, the Nokia E90 Communicator is perhaps the most feature packed handset we even saw with surprisingly little compromise. It’s big for a phone, but a tiny GPS enabled multimedia computer. At the Gazette staff, we have been a big fan of the series Communicator, and you can bet that we will be eager to put our hands on this latest incarnation.
