Samsung i310 3G and WiFi Smartphone
Posted on January 17, 2008 in Samsung
The two main improvements are the disk capacity - the Samsung i310 has an 8GB internal drive (the i300 has 3Gb and the i300x 4GB), and a long-overdue upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 system ‘exploitation. The camera has also been upgraded to 2 megapixels of 1.3 megapixels. The i310 now supports USB 2.0 for high-speed data transfers.
It is a device to look fairly bland, with only a few minor cosmetic differences (mostly money instead of a keyboard black), in technical terms, but it compares favourably with the competition. It has a better screen and more disk space that the delay Nokia N91, for example while the Nokia N91 provides 3G and WiFi. Or at least it will do when it finally arrives on the market. The Sony Ericsson W950i has only 4 GB of internal flash memory (rather than a disk) and no camera, but it is arguably a better smartphone.
The Samsung SGH-i310 is an update to the i300 phone, and it is similar device with an internal hard disk and a Windows operating system, with the emphasis firmly on playing music.
We are still not convinced that the hard drives in phones are a good idea - and although the SGH-i310 is currently the leader in terms of storage capacity, we believe that it will not be long until that systems based on flash up. To say that the Samsung SGH-i310 will be available in the second half of 2006.
As with the previous model, the i310 has a QVGA screen 240×320 pixels, Bluetooth and EDGE support (but not 3G or WiFi), plus a microSD / TransFlash memory slot, the mail client, web browser, and of course a multimedia player capable of playing back MP3, WMA and AAC audio.
