Toshiba Portégé G500 Supports Portable

Toshiba is a household name when it comes to laptops, which will be familiar to Funcellphones readers for more Thosiba new mobile phones.

What’s a little surprising then is that it’s taken so long for Toshiba to put the two together and offer smartphones.

The G500 models supports Portable (pronounced ay-port-zhay) that Toshiba uses on its more compact laptops, which means that Toshiba is probably the pitching models G500 first as tiny devices based on Windows rather than souped-up mobile phones.

The G500 Portable (pictured right) is looking fairly conventional slider phone at first glance. Under the sub-G500 from outside is a Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone with EDGE, 3G, HSDPA (we think it is tri-band HSDPA) and the Wi-Fi and data connectivity local support Bluetooth and USB.

One thing about the novel G500 is the fingerprint sensor, which can also be used to navigate the menus of the device. We do not have much information about this except that the G500 also uses it as a security component. The screen is a 2.3 “240×320 pixels and the Portégé G500 also has a 2 megapixel camera with a second call video camera, miniSD expandable memory, VOIP capabilities and bundled software package is quite familiar with the combination of features that comes with Windows Media 5.0.

The indications are that the G500 Portable will be available soon in the retail sector, in late April or early May, or around £ 300 / € 500.
